Went for the Sandy Lam – Ye Se Wu Bian Concert. One word – Speechless!
The pre-concert minutes were unlike the usual. It flashed some simple advertisements. No MTVs of Sandy or music to spice up the atmosphere. Nothing. We were even led to think that the organizer might have run out of budget or something.
Then it started, as in like, just started from nowhere… Her fan club started to yell, surprisingly they were mainly uncles and aunties between 30 to 60 (there was an old man with an entire head of silver hair, goes to show the age).
The concert was segmented by theme, some with hip dance moves, some just plain singing, and one part (the most memorable, an opera rendition of Mei2 Gui4 Xiang1). This artiste is simply one of a kind:
1) She looks great even when she’s turning 40 (or has she). Her complexion is simply perfect.
2) I was never aware apart from the very gentle vocals she sports in her MTVs, she actually has a voice more powerful than Zhang Hui Mei (as in she didn’t need to scream to project the volume and clarity). She seemed to breeze through all the high notes too, smiling as if it was a piece of cake.
3) Her language, English, Mandarin and Cantonese are all very perfect. She was her own MC, and did a great job; like a seasoned stage veteran.
4) She must be damn fit lah! She jumps all around while singing those super “breathless” songs. I’ll deflate if I even try that with half a song.
5) She’s great at twisting the notes, modifying the melody innovatively to suit the mood and band.
This is the best concert I have ever seen. I’m now anxiously waiting for the DVD to be released!
