Getting Down to Work
Tuesday, October 31, 2006
It’s been 5 good years (plus or minus), since I have enlisted and turned into one of those men in green. It is 3 more Fridays to go before I get myself out of this organisation, for good! It gladness coupled with a little nostalgia, for I have had some really good times, especially in the last 2 years (though it was also the most hectic).
The last few weeks have been spent focusing on expanding the core venture and setting up some new ones. But the main transition isn’t really the physical portion; after all I have to be honest, to the fact that I have been a moonlighting joker for ever since I enlisted. It’s the mental shift, where there is no longer a fixed job, fixed hour or fixed pay. Its down to how much you want to make, and that’s the crude bottom line.
Having my new office up is of course quite ecstatic, though it’s temp (cos the official one, which is 2 floors below the current one, is still tenanted). 3 days into my office, and I’m getting into the habit of working till approximately 3am every day.
This is a shot of my workstation :

This motivation is hard to describe, I don’t even feel like I am doing any overtime work. My hours are flexible, I can start at 12pm, but the main and only daily objective is to meet the business’s schedules and expansion plans.
In fact, I no longer have my work assigned on a daily basis, more like weekly or monthly, which leaves a lot of space and freedom for planning any other activity at all.
Well, toil for 2 more months, and my official office will be up. New staff should be in after 2 weeks, which would definitely help ease my workload a little :)
